Women During The American Revolution Essay - 1178 Words
During the American Revolution, not only did men have to face the struggles of war time atmosphere, but women had to as well. The country during the war was divided into three different groups of people; the loyalists, the patriots and the remaining people who did not care. Catherine Van Cortlandt, a loyalist had to endure different struggles then the patriot women Eliza Pinckney and Abigail Adams. However, parts of their stories are similar when it came to their family struggles. Catherine Van Cortlandt was a loyalist. She raised nine children, for the most part alone, while her husband Philip was part of the British military. Soon after Philip left to go fight for the British, Light Horsemen rushed through the door of Catherinesâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦When Catherine approached the farmer to purchase some milk, he asks who she is, and following her answer, he refuses. While still living in the mansion, Catherine had to respond to the orders of the Colonel and officers who were also living with her. She was treated like a servant and called landlady by the men. Catherine communicated with her husband through letters which at times did not make it to the house. Eliza Pinckney, a Patriot, had a rather large responsibility on her hands at the age of seventeen. When her mother died, Eliza was left to care for her siblings and the three plantations that her family owned. She grew several new crops and even indigo which was used as a dye and exported to other places. Eliza and her husband Charles Pinckney had three children together. Charles was also a planter, a lawyer and a political leader. Two of their three sons were involved in the Revolutionary War. They obtained the positions of General. After the death of her husband, Eliza raised her three children alone and tried to instill some sort of morality into their lives. She constantly impressed on her children the family tradition of opposition to Ãâwrong, oppression, or tyranny of any sort, public or private (Marcus 128). During the America War of Independence, British raids annihilated Elizas property leaving her in a financial rut. Elizas sons did well in their position in the war and even signed the Declaration of Independence. Question: Discuss about the Examining Wine Tasting Room Profitability. Answer: Introduction Social marketing looks for to develop as well since be used on the marketing principles with other strategies in influencing the behavior, which benefit people and groups for the greater social good. It attempt to integrate on the research , best practices , principle along with the association perception , to be able notify the delivery of rivalry sensitive along with segmented social change program which are effective , equitable and sustainable (Adams, 2016) . Social marketing aims in influencing on the social behaviors not to advantage the marketer, but instead to advantage the target audience and basic culture. The same as commercial marketing, the primary focus is on the customer to studying what people would like and require instead of attempting to influence these to buy exactly what we are producing. The marketing element talk to the consumer, not regarding the merchandise (Armstrong, Adam, Denize Kotler, 2014). The arranging element takes this customer to concentrate into consideration of dealing with all the aspects of the marketing mix. These types of elements are regarding, the idea of the product, price, distribution (place), and promotion (Goi, 2015).The essay seek to critically examine and compare on two website the RSPCA and WWF. The analysis will be based on 4Ps of marketing which would be examined on the core benefits, the expected products on each of the website on the campaign they seek to explore. On the price it explores on the initial cost and the ongoing cost for the customer, distribution highlights to where the product could be obtained and how the customer could make the purchase. Promotion concept seeks to explain on what the message are being sent for the potential client and the various type of messages. Product refers to the goods as well as the services that are available the consumers. Aside from the bodily products itself, there are numerous components that are related to the product that the customers might be interested in it as the presentation. On the website for the analysis one is on RSPCA which encourages individuals to adopt on a pet. The campaign message for the website is to choose the right pet for your fun. The product which is being advertised is adoption of pets such as dogs, cats and other animals. The website provide information in regards to the pet that could be adopted across Australia on the other website of WWF it search individuals to donate and adopt on the endangered animals during these festive Christmas (Rahimnia Hassanzadeh, 2013). Donation are for helping to out the trained conservation dogs under the tree this Christmas, on the adoption is for the wildlife animals such as tiger, bear, leopard, panda, penguin and many other animals (Adams, 2016). On the product attributes it is important to look at the quality, features, options, services and the brand name. The website have provided these attributes in order to appeal to the customer on the campaign message that is being passed across. The appearance of the product, function, and the support make up significantly what the customer is buying. The designer of the product paid attention to the product bundles address for customers (Khan, 2014). The product bundle should always meet on the needs of a given target market. The target market for the campaign is for the Australian people to adopt on the animals and help donate some money for these animals. The messages have created on a product for the right image for the customers who have everything. The product has been positioned for the price conscious consumers. These individuals would likely donate and adopt for the cause for these animals. The brand name for the product is well positioned for example on the RSPCA it has wide range of products from great and small to adopt. Providing on the right information in regards to the product has been one aspect that will enable people to adopt (Khan, 2014). RSPCA provides packages where one could adopt a pet, pet insurance for the same animal and one could provide a small donation for the course. On the case of WWF website the animals that one could adopt are the wild animals, or perhaps donate towards the conservation dogs to be under the tree this Christmas. The message is to get people be involved especially during this festive season (Bhattacharjee, Berger Menon, 2014). On the aspect social marketing customer research should be the key elements in creating an efficient product. The expertise in the target audience along with competitors helps to offer a product which is appealing to the consumers as well as prevent on the costly mistakes. The price describes just how much you need to charge for the product or maybe the service. In deciding on the appropriate price might be an issue. In many of the cases a lot of business seems they should have the lowest price around (Gordon, 2012). Therefore, they commence their enterprise by creation of impression for bargaining price. This may be considered the signal for the low quality rather than a part of the image which one wish to portray. The prices strategy that has been used in the website reflect on the appropriate positioning for the product that are being advertised in the market. The price for the product cover on the cost for the item as well as the profit margin. The result is not greedy nor timid for the consumers to get the product (Chan, 2013). The donation price on the product in RSPCA website are significantly friendly for the consumer to contribute toward helping stop cruelty, and pursue justice against the animals. Further, the fines are used towards the issue s on the animal welfare so that people could be responsible pet owners (Gordon, 2012). On the contrast the WWF website donations of money ranges from fifty dollars to 200 dollars towards the course of protecting the animals and the domestic animals such as the dog. Various pricing strategies could be followed on determining on the price. Some could involve complex calculation methods other just intuitive judgments. The selection of the pricing strategy used by the owners advertising on the product could use product, customer demand, and the competitive environment. The strategy that has been used is the value based technique in which the consumers perceptive of the value of the products rather than the costs (Theodosiou, Kehagias Katsikea, 2012). The perception is based on all the aspects of the product which include on the non-price aspect such as quality, and prestige. RSPCA website are advocating on the pets. These animals are usually regarded as wonderful creators especially to the children (Chan, 2013). On the WWF website they are advocating more to donate towards the wild animals. These animals over the years have become distinct due to poaching if they are taken care of the generation to come would see these wild beauty. Place represents the distribution channels that have been accustomed to get on the products to the customers. The products is going to be tremendously depend upon how distributed. The placement of the product is a very significant part of the marketing mix (Theodosiou, Kehagias Katsikea, 2012). The product should be positioned and distributed to a place that is accessible to the potential buyers. The target group for RSPCA website is the Australian people (Marta, Singhapakdi, Lee, Sirgy, Koonmee Virakul, 2013). The marketing channel they are using is the website. The website would likely reach many people across the globe. Additionally, the target group are the youth, and the middle class and the older people who loves the pet. WWF website seek to ask all the people across the globe to adopt on the endangered animals which are going to extinct as well as pet such as dog during this Christmas holiday (Rahimnia Hassanzadeh, 2013). Christmas is a period towards giving, and sharing to the less privileged. People should help to makes the endangered animals to be safer. Positioning is all about painting (Kotler, 2012). To purchase the pet, it is very easy on the RSPCA local all one need to do is to type on the pet that is one is interested and search on the list from the website. Promotion Promotion describes the advertising and selling section of the marketing. It relates to the way you allow individuals to understand what you plan to sale. Promotion fundamentally is to allow individuals to know what the product it is, the use for it, and also in which they need to desire it. For the purpose of effectiveness the website has used promotional efforts which contain a clear message to the targeted group to the audience through the internet (Erdem Keane, 1996). RSPCA and WWF website has used message that portrays on the product they are selling. RSPCA want individuals to adopt the pet as well as to donate something towards the animal welfare. On comparison WWF website has tailored there message based on the festive season Christmas. They want people to adopt something during the season for the noble cause of protecting the wild animals. Justification who is the target market. The target group for these two website is different. RSPCA target the young people, who may want a pet for companion. The target audience are mostly based in Australia and also help towards the animal welfare. On the case of WWF website the target market is for every individual across the globe. Individuals could contribute towards the animal protection, as well as adopt on the wild animals. I believe I could fit in the target audience as a young person which it focuses. Additionally, am fond of pets and acquiring one or perhaps donating towards their protection would be meaningful. Conclusion Social marketing is a significant marketing tool that could be used by the managers towards selling their products to the consumers. It is beneficial since one could reach a wide range of audiences across the globe. RSPCA and WWF have used social marketing through the design of the website in order to influence on people to adopt, donate towards the products they are offering. In the essay, it has focused on the 4Ps, which are the marketing mix strategies that are used by many business to promote on their products. References Adams, M. E. (2016). 1. A) Bulk Movement Is The Overall Movement Of A Fluid. The Molecules
1. a) Bulk movement is the overall movement of a fluid. The molecules all move in the same direction. Diffusion however is the random movement of molecules which usually results in a fairly even distribution. In other words the movement is not guaranteed to move in one direction but the probability that it will move in the lower gradient is greater. Osmosis is similar to diffusion but is differentiated by the membrane's behavior. The cell membrane does allow water to move from higher to lower concentrations but does not allow solutes do that. b) Water potential is the capacity of water to move to a from a region where there is high water potential to low water potential. This action happens without the affect of outside forces. When outside actions due occur and they give water a high potential energy than the water will move to the region where less potential energy is. Hydrostatic pressure is the pressure required to stop water the movement of water. This is a method of measuremen t. The osmotic potential is the measure of tendency of water to move through a membrane which contains a solution. This occurs when a cell does not allow a hypertonic solution to leave the cell membrane. The cell begins to increase with water but the cell membrane can not release the solution and thus the water potential within the cell increases. This causes the water to no longer enter the cell. c) Hypotonic is less solute to a certain amount of water. Hypertonic is more solute to a certain amount of water. Isotonic is the equal amount of solutes in two different solutions. d) Endocytosis is the inward bulge causes by incoming molecules. Exocytosis is the expelling of a material outside a cell. e) Phagocytosis is the process where the cell obtains solid matter. This is different from the pinocytosis where the cell obtains liquid matter. These both are endocytic processes. Receptor-mediated endocytosis is the process where there are interactions between a material and receptor site s on the cell. In this process the cell accepts the material if it matches with the receptor sites. f) Coated pits are areas which peripheral proteins indent the membrane. This is where the vesicles for certain materials are formed. The vesicle which is formed is called the coated vesicle. g) Plasmodesmata are the links which hold two adjacent cells together. Gap junctions are the channels which allow materials to flow between cells. 2. The concentration gradient is the difference in the density of a material from one region to another region. The concentration gradient affects diffusion by allowing the substance to flow from high concentration to low concentration. The concentration gradient affects osmosis by the same manner it does in diffusion. The cell does not allow the solution to exit the cell when water is entering. This keeps the solution in the cell making the concentration high and thus no further penetration of water. 4. Diffusion is more rapid in gases because they a re less dense than liquids. They repel each other more resulting in faster diffusion. Diffusion is greater at higher temperatures because of the greater kinetic energy among the molecules. They push each other more making them less dense. 5. The concentration of the solute is 1%. This happens because a 1% sugar solution is isotonic with that of the 1% sugar solution in the tubes. The 2% sugar solution was increased because the substance was hypertonic. The membrane did not allow the hypertonic solution to exit because the pressure from the hypotonic solution was forcing water in. This later reached an equilibrium when the hypertonic solution was gaining water potential and the water stopped rising. The vice versa happened in the distilled water solution.

The Complete Guide to Grants for College
The Complete Guide to Grants for College SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips If you know youââ¬â¢ll need to get financial aid to make college more affordable (most students do, by the way), then you should definitely learn everything you can about grants. They happen to be some of the best forms of financial aid you can get. Here, Iââ¬â¢ll tell you exactly why grants are so great and why you should seek them out. Then, Iââ¬â¢ll get to the important stuff: where and how you can get your own grant awards. Letââ¬â¢s get started! What Are Grants for College? Grants are sometimes called ââ¬Å"gift aid.â⬠Grant money is funding that you donââ¬â¢t have to work for (like work study) and that you donââ¬â¢t have to pay back (like loans). At this point, you may be thinking that college grants sound pretty similar to scholarships. And youââ¬â¢re right - they generally work in the same way in that you donââ¬â¢t have to pay back either type of funding. The major difference between grants and scholarships is that grants are usually primarily based on financial need, whereas scholarships are often merit-based or need- and merit-based. Why Are Grants so Great? College grants are awesome forms of financial aid because they lower your college costs immediately and forever. Other forms of financial aid - loans, specifically - are helpful when you donââ¬â¢t have the money to pay for college, but they can become a burden after you graduate because you have to pay them back (plus interest). Loans are band-aids that cost you money in the long run - this doesnââ¬â¢t mean that they canââ¬â¢t be helpful and important forms of financial aid, but grants are superior to loans because you get the money up front and are under no obligation to pay back the funds later on. Another reason why grants are so great? Because they tend to be need-based, theyââ¬â¢re often awarded to students who need them the most. Although there are definitely financial aid opportunities out there for students who come from more privileged backgrounds, grants are primarily awarded to students with very limited financial resources. Where Can You Get Grants for College? There are a few major sources of grants for college students. Because thereââ¬â¢s no standardized application, protocol, or eligibility criteria for all grants available to college students, things can seem a bit complicated at first. Not to worry, though - things arenââ¬â¢t as complicated if youââ¬â¢re able to break down grants by funding source. Here are the most important places to find grant funding, along with basic eligibility criteria for each funding source. Federal Government - Eligibility requirements for federal grants are laid out in our Pell Grant guide. Overall, the requirements are pretty lax - the major ones are that you need a high school diploma or GED, and you need to be enrolled (or accepted to enroll) in a college or career school. State Government - Eligibility requirements for state-based grants will, unsurprisingly, vary by state. At the very least you should meet all federal requirements in addition to being a state resident. Get more detailed information about state financial aid programs. Your School - In the context of this post, Iââ¬â¢m defining a grant as an award thatââ¬â¢s strictly need-based. Schools may award grants or ââ¬Å"scholarshipsâ⬠that are based on financial need, not merit, to students who have been accepted and need help paying the full Cost of Attendance. Eligibility reqs will vary by school, but some schools tend to be more generous than others. If you only take away one piece of information from this section, it should be this: the most well-known grants are the ones offered through the federal government. The application process and eligibility requirements are very standardized, so the grants are very predictable. Predictability means you can estimate a budget for your grant awards before you even apply! Federal sources should be your first consideration when you start looking into grant opportunities. Federal Grants for College There are many different federal grant options, each with their own requirements and award amounts. Here, Iââ¬â¢ll cover the main federal grants and what you should know about them. Pell Grants - These are for students who havenââ¬â¢t yet earned a bachelorââ¬â¢s or professional degree. The maximum award for 2016-2017 is $5,815, although the amount you get is determined by your financial need. This is the largest and most important federal grant program. FSEOG (Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant) - These are for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. Theyââ¬â¢re administered directly by the financial aid offices at participating schools, and are therefore called ââ¬Å"campus-basedâ⬠aid. Recipients get between $100-$4,000 per year depending on financial need. TEACH Grants (Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education) - These are different from most other grants because they have some strings attached. The awards are meant to help students pay for college if they plan on becoming a teacher in a high-need field in a low-income area. To keep the grant from becoming a loan, you need to take certain kinds of classes and get a certain kind of job. Students can get up to $4,000 per year. Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants - Students whose parent or guardian died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan may be eligible for these grants. The grant maximum is the same as that of the Pell Grant, which is $5,815 for 2016-2017. These awards can cover a pretty significant chunk of your college expenses, especially if youââ¬â¢re also getting aid from other sources, like outside scholarships or school-based financial aid. State Grants for College State grant amounts and eligibility will vary based on where you live. Sometimes you just need to fill out a FAFSA to be considered for state grant aid, whereas other times youââ¬â¢ll need to fill out a separate financial aid application. The good news is that almost every state education agency has at least one grant or scholarship available to residents. For more information, look into grant availability for your state. Grants from Your College or University Just like with state grants, institutional grant aid availability and eligibility will vary based on the school you attend. Many highly ranked schools offer relatively large amounts of grant aid based on financial need. Some schools offer impressive amounts of merit aid in order to attract competitive applicants. There are a couple of ways you can get more info about typical grant aid at a particular school: Check out that schoolââ¬â¢s net price calculator (almost every school has one on its admissions and/or financial aid website). You enter in your financial and sometimes academic information, and the tool spits out an estimate of the amount of aid youââ¬â¢d receive if you attended that school. Google ââ¬Å"[school name] PrepScholar tuitionâ⬠for our page on that schoolââ¬â¢s grant, scholarship, and loan availability. The page will walk you through estimating your own aid eligibility at that school. Example: The first search result link here is the one you want. How Do You Apply for Grants? Now that you have a better idea of why grants are awesome and how much money you can actually get, the next step would be to submit those grant applications. So where do you start? Again, the process for applying for college grants depends on where the money comes from. Here, Iââ¬â¢ll break down application processes for the major sources of grant funding. Federal Government You may not have expected this, but the federal government actually makes it pretty easy to apply for grant funding (and all federal funding, really). You just have to submit one application: the FAFSA. Youââ¬â¢ll need to gather quite a bit of financial information for both yourself and your parents before you start, but once you have that paperwork the actual application shouldnââ¬â¢t take long. Get step-by-step instructions on how to complete your FAFSA. To estimate the amount of aid youââ¬â¢ll be eligible for before you even submit your FAFSA, read about how to use the FASFA4caster. State Government Unfortunately, some states donââ¬â¢t make it quite as easy to apply for grants. Youââ¬â¢ll have to do your own research on what your state of residency requires. Learn more about specific state aid availability and application processes. Your School Oftentimes, your application for grant money (at least for your freshman year) is your college application - you may not need to submit any additional paperwork, which really streamlines the whole process. To double-check that youââ¬â¢re not missing out on any grant opportunities at a specific school, just Google ââ¬Å"[school name] grants and scholarships.â⬠There should be a page on that schoolââ¬â¢s financial aid website with more information on available aid - just make sure youââ¬â¢re only looking at awards for undergraduate students at the grade level youââ¬â¢re entering. For more information on school grant aid, check out these posts: Schools with the best financial aid Schools with 100% financial aid How to win a full ride scholarship Other Options for Financial Aid If youââ¬â¢re on the lookout for need-based aid, there are other options out there besides grant funding. Scholarships Many private and nonprofit organizations offer scholarships (remember, scholarships often include merit requirements) with strict financial need qualifications. Scholarships from private organizations may be offered on a local, state, national, or even international level - as you might expect, then, thereââ¬â¢s no single consolidated database with information on all available grants from private sources. But that doesnââ¬â¢t mean that there arenââ¬â¢t good resources out there for you to start your research! Each private scholarship or grant organization will have its own deadline, eligibility requirements, and application process. The good news is that this means more chances to win money; the bad news is that youââ¬â¢ll have to keep track of a lot of moving parts, especially if you apply to several grant or scholarship programs. Step one is actually finding grant/scholarship programs you think may be a good fit. I personally think this is the hardest part of the process. Then, you just have to be organized about submitting all parts of your applications in a polished and timely fashion. Federal Work Study The Federal Work Study Program encourages employers to hire students with federal work study awards, which opens up job opportunities for you while youââ¬â¢re in college. This isnââ¬â¢t a grant, loan, or scholarship - you earn a wage like with any other job, but youââ¬â¢re able to use the money as you see fit. Youââ¬â¢re considered for a Work Study award when you submit your FAFSA, so you donââ¬â¢t have any extra paperwork to fill out if youââ¬â¢re interested in this need-based program. Read more about Federal Work Study for more information. Summary: How Grants Can Help You Grants - which are available from all sorts of sources - are a great way to make college more affordable, especially if your family is relatively low-income (this increases your chances of qualifying for grant aid). To optimize the amount of grant money you receive, you should check out funding from federal, state, institutional, and private sources. This may mean that you juggle several deadlines and applications, but I promise that if you do your due diligence ahead of time, the money you save will prove worth it in the long run. Retail Design and Retail Merchandising - Thesis Example The retail business group has been at the receiving end of numerous innovations that are being produced in the process of the evolution of architectural features. Foremost of these are those new technologies and theories that will help attract new and retain current customers for future business operations. In addition, the profile of the modern customer has also evolved and diversified, demanding more from their purchases and more from the establishment that they get these merchandises from. The offshoot is that retail specific features have become essential to creating a competitive edge over business rivals. Generally, the two major design components that a retailers store must focus on are i) the physical design of the interior (walls, structures, etc.) and ii) The design of a favorable environment for effective visual communications.(Retail Systems, n.d.) Some of the specific inventions in retail system designs are (i) reliable and secure systems based on efficient automation and (ii) environmentally friendly and cost effective solutions (Salvador, et al., 2006). Prison is primarily a mechanism for the regulation of labour Essay
Prison is primarily a mechanism for the regulation of labour - Essay Example Considerations for the profitability of prison labour have been seen from various corporations and businesses and they have since considered the prisoners as labourers. Critics to this practice however point out that prison seems to have become a mechanism for controlling and regulating labour, and that in the process, the system has circumvented fair labour practices, including unionization and minimum wage requirements. Corporations however are quick to point out that prison labour is part of the rehabilitation process and is within the fair mandates of the law. Based on these opposing sides to the issue, this paper shall discuss the thesis that: Prison is primarily a mechanism for the regulation of labour. A clear and comprehensive analysis shall be considered in order to arrive at a valid and reliable understanding of the issue. Body Prison labour has been the subject of various international legal arguments. These arguments all relate to the application and validity of its practice. Prison labour is basically understood as labour ââ¬Å"undertaken by convicts housed within the confines of a prison, both private and public that produces either a good or a serviceâ⬠(American University, 2001). The US is going through a period of liberalization and with the creation of private prisons, laws have begun to change in relation to inmate labour. The US Prisons Industries Enhancement Program (PIE) has assisted prisons to coordinate with private industries in order to market prison products on a wider scale (American University, 2001).... In the UK, prison labour is also not an unfamiliar practice. Prisoners in the UK are now known to be working for many of UKââ¬â¢s well-known brands for as little as 4 pounds a week (Cookson and Chamberlain, 2009). Companies like Virgin Atlantic, Monarch Airlines, and Travis Perkins are just some of these companies who are benefiting from prison labour and the NHS and the Ministry of Defence has also been known to utilize these goods produced by prisoners (Cookson and Chamberlain, 2009). More than 100 companies are utilizing prison labour in England and Wales, producing holiday brochures, name tags, and balloons for industrial mouldings. And most people are actually unaware that their products are being made by inmates (Cookson and Chamberlain, 2009). In about a year, an estimated 30 million pounds between companies and prisons are being signed. Critics are quick to label these contracts to be exploitative because they provide prisoners with mundane and repetitive work; and their a ctual rehabilitation process is actually not given much attention (Cookson and Chamberlain, 2009). There are about 80,000 inmates in the US who are involved in commercial activities, and some of them are making about 21 cents per hour for their labours (Whyte and Baker, 2000). The US government presently employs around 21,000 inmates making various products, including file cabinets, electronic equipment, and military helmets which are then sold to federal agencies and private companies (Whyte and Baker, 2000). Sales from prison labour products now register at $600 million with about 37 million dollars in profits. Prison labourers are also now in the manufacturing industry, participating in making blue jeans, auto parts,
